before his MRI |
he had an MRI yesterday at the hospital because he needed anesthesia . The doctor isn't sure of what he is looking at just that it's not a normal six year old elbow. They initially thought capitellum fracture but the MRI will reveal what the real problem is.. He said he sees swelling on the x-ray and fluid . If you ask Colton his pain level he will tell you 0- no pain. And he is playing baseball three times a week and using his arm for everything because it's his right arm.. This started right after Christmas when he was riding his new razor dirt bike that Santa brought . While practicing he fell a few times and I think that's how he fractured his elbow. We thought he strained a muscle so we waited two weeks and also the pain wasn't constant it would come and go. So our first step was to see our pediatrician . They did an x-ray and said the bone is fine he probably has elbow tendinitis and should wear a brace when riding his dirt bike. They also said if the pain continues for two weeks maybe we should see an orthopedic. They have radiology look at the x-ray's and call you back if they see something the doctor didn't see .I never got a call but two more weeks went by and he would complain when he lifted things . I decided to call for a referral . We got in the same week with Dr.Dupuy at orthocarolina. He saw the fracture on his elbow and said give it two weeks and it will be healed . He wanted to see him again in two weeks . He said to limit his activity and try to rest the arm as much as possible but no sling or cast.
Two weeks went by and I called the office to confirm my appointment ( I had an appointment card)
and they said it wasn't scheduled. they did get me in with Dr. Dupuy's PA . He did a repeat x-ray then another and another , it ended up being five or six x-rays , then he came in the room and said the fracture is still there but I've called our pediatric surgical team and they said he is fine. He looked uncomfortable with this .
So we left and I didn't feel right (mother's intuition) So the next morning I called him back and he talked to me and said he would feel better if he sees Colton back in three weeks but He also told me to sign him up for baseball.
So I signed him up and three weeks later (last Thursday) He did two x-rays came in the room and said it's still there, it hasn't healed and he saw fluid on the back side of the elbow .
Now remember Colton has zero pain .. He even said he called a buddy of his who is a radiologist at cmc and had him pull up Colton's x-ray to take a look. His friend's words were that isn't a normal six year old elbow it needs an MRI.
He has improved so much at baseball and doesn't want to stop . But he might have to sit out a little depending on the treatment plan the Doctor gives us ..
We see the doctor Friday to go over treatment options.. I hope we get answers and some quick healing ...
Here is colton in recovery at the hospital he was snoozing so good and he did not want t wake up...
