There is a story with this view .. see below :) This is the summit trail at Elk Knob State in Todd NC. |
It is beautiful . We hiked a flat one mile trail first to warm up for the uphill hike of 1.9 miles to the summit. I've heard it is so amazing at the very top. Mother Nature was not on our side.
Rain showers kept coming and going and we both looked at the radar and it was clear so we decided it was a good time to hike up this trail that is strenuous.

part of the trail had these rocks as stairs |
We got to 1.5 miles and the bottom fell out. We looked at each other and Jeremiah said what do you want to do . I said head back to the car. The view above was at the 1.2 mile marker . It's still a beautiful view.. We may go back and try again . We headed down hill as fast as we could . When we got to the car we were soaked except for Waylon . Jeremiah held him close to his chest and somehow kept him dry the whole 1.5 mile hike back to the car. Colton was soaked poor baby he changed as soon as he got in the car. I didn't have anything to change into so I was freezing . But I said this was a hike we will never forget. We went back to the cabin and cleaned up and ate lunch then went back out to downtown blowing rock to feed the ducks...

. Colton played in the river with his boots on . The water was freezing but cold doesn't bother him at all.
